Chicken Coop
We’ve been talking about it for a long time but we are finally getting started. Saturday we were at Lowes pricing lumber for building a chicken coop. While wondering around outside we found this really nice kids playhouse and thought “Wow that would make a great chicken coop!”.
The problem, well it was $399!
So we went home and I started looking online for a better price on the playhouse. I ran accross an ongoing thread over at BackYardChickens about this exact same playhouse. The discussion was that different Lowes stores had it for different prices. Some of the stores had it priced as low as $99! So I started checking other stores and the lowest I was able to find it was for $149. So… I print the listing and went back to my local store. And they price matched it and I left with a nice new playhouse… err… chicken coop!
Here’s a picture of it from the website.

After a good bit of work the driveway is now cleaned up. Here’s some pictures of the tree and of the aftermath of the cleanup.
Notice in one of the pictures the top of the tree hanging from the telephone line? Well there were two lines running from the pole. One of those was my phone line. We called it in and amazingly the Verizon guy was out today. After I cut the trunk of the tree up I left the top of the tree hanging. I didn’t want to break the other line trying to get it down. The Verizon guy helped me with moving the tree top around and we broke off enough of the dead branches at the top to lift the tree top off the wire and then drop it on the ground. It was an interesting morning/afternoon.
Here’s a picture of me with the cleanup leftovers:

Trees fall down when the wind blows. Atleast in my yard they do.
Currently we moved into this place back in June. How long this property has been ”back to nature” I have no idea. But it must have been re-growing for quite some time. At any point we have a lot of dead trees on the property. Some have already fallen and some are waiting to fall. Like the one yesterday. The wind blew it completely over. Dead tree roots and all just fell over.
Time to go out and cut it up. Cheap heating and free firewood. It’s a good thing.
